At Kindred Foundation, we believe that we must address both immediate and long-term needs to make a difference. Scholarships are about looking forward and helping to ensure that talented and deserving students have access to education, regardless of their financial situation. We are pleased to be able to support Canadian students through different scholarship opportunities.
The Kindred Foundation x Adventure4Change Scholarship was established in 2022 and is dedicated to supporting the achievement of academic excellence by Adventure4Change (A4C) Alumni. The scholarship supports 2 selected A4C alumni for up to 4 years (or the length of their academic program). Kindred Foundation manages the scholarship, and a committee created by Kindred Foundation decides upon awardees.

The significant challenges that we are now facing around youth mental health in Canada require both short and long-term strategies. We are supporting organizations that are providing mental health care to youth today, and we must also address the long-term need to educate, train, and empower more mental health professionals who can provide care to our youth in the future.
To accomplish this long-term goal, Kindred Foundation is partnering with organizations providing scholarships to students as part of our youth mental health strategy. We are funding scholarships in the area of mental health and/or health sciences at colleges or universities across Canada. These scholarships are a part of our initiative to help youth dealing with mental health and illness challenges in Canada from two youth communities - Black youth and/or 2SLGBTQ+ youth communities.
Kindred Foundation is honoured to support 14 'roster' (multi-year) scholarships with The Black Education Fund. These scholarships support Black students studying in the area(s) of mental health, health sciences or sciences programs. Starting in 2023, one of the 5 newly awarded scholarships supports a student who identifies within the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Each student receives $1,000 per year for the duration of their program (up to 4 years).

Helen Prior served as an ordained minister in the United Church for over 30 years and provided compassionate leadership as an interim minister at Grace United Church. Helen’s guidance helped foster a strong, connected, and loving community. Helen passed away from cancer in 2024, leaving a profound loss for her wife, family, congregation, and the broader community.
We are proud to announce the creation of the Helen Prior Memorial Scholarship, in partnership with Grace United Church, The Black Education Fund (BEF), and Kindred Foundation.
Three multi-year or roster scholarships of $1,000 per year, for up to four years, supporting Black students across Canada.
Two single-year bursaries of $1,000 each.
Three of the five scholarships will be awarded to students who identify as part of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. All scholarships will support students pursuing studies in health sciences, with priority given to those focusing on mental health. When possible, preference will be given to students with ties to Burlington, Ontario. We are pleased to have members of Grace United Church participating in the selection process.
Over the next five years, additional scholarships will be funded to continue this legacy.
Starting in 2025, the Crabb Family Scholarship, in partnership with The Black Education Fund (BEF) and Kindred Foundation, will support 1 multi-year scholarship of $1,000 per year, for up to four years. The scholarship will support a Black student studying in the area of mental health, health sciences or sciences programs.
Recognizing the opportunities their education made possible, Mary Ruth and Michael Crabb decided to fund a scholarship to help open doors for others pursuing post-secondary education—especially those entering the field of healthcare.
In 2022, Kindred Foundation supported 2 scholarships with The Black Business and Professional Association. These scholarships supported two Black students studying in the area(s) of mental health, health sciences or sciences programs. Each student receives $2,000 per year for the duration of their program (up to 4 years, completing in 2026).
