Annual Grant Competitions
Kindred Foundation funds research for children, adolescents and young adults with cancer. From 2021-2025, Kindred gave over $465,000 CAD to research projects, and with our partners, gave almost $850,000 to childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancer research.
The Treats & Treasures Cart is filled with a wide assortment of toys, healthy snacks, candy, chocolate and other fun items. It is designed to bring joy and brighten the day of children who are going through cancer treatment and their families. The Treats & Treasures Cart Program is a partnership with The EVAN Foundation (USA), and all three Carts in British Columbia are co-funded with Team Finn.
There are 13 Treats & Treasures Carts spreading joy throughout Canada, part of the larger Treats & Treasures Cart family that spans across the US and UK.
The Housing Support Program started in 2025 to assist families living in Canada who have a child in active cancer treatment and are experiencing financial hardship. Families receive counselling from a Licensed Insolvency Trustee, counselling with a Licensed Residential Mortgage Specialist (if needed), and an e-transfer of $5,000 to cover the costs of their rent or mortgage payments.
In 2025, we supported 42 families. A total of $210,000 was given through the Housing Support Program.
The U-Link Patient and Family Fund provides financial assistance to families who must travel to access a clinical trial for their child, adolescent, or young adult with cancer. This program has become an important resource for Social Workers across Canada when helping families and patients manage the expenses that come with a cancer diagnosis. The U-Link Patient and Family Fund is run in partnership with Phoebe Rose Rocks and Tillsonburg Running With The Bulls.
62 families have been supported and over $107,000 has been given through the U-Link Patient and Family Fund by Kindred Foundation and our partners (2022-2025).
The Family Support Package provides $350 worth of gift cards to help families with the cost of gas, food, and other expenses when their child is in cancer treatment. The Family Support Package Program is run in partnership with Phoebe Rose Rocks and Tali’s Fund.
222 Family Support Packages have been given for childhood cancer families across Canada (2024 and 2025).
Kindred Foundation provides multi-year scholarships to students from marginalized communities to help them realize their educational dreams. Funding is provided directly to the student.
As of 2025, Kindred Foundation partnered to provide more scholarships. We are grateful to our partners who are funding additional scholarships with The Black Education Fund:
Helen Prior Memorial Scholarship, funded by Grace United Church (5 new)
Maureen Monette Leadership Scholarship, funded by the Monette family (2 new)
Crabb Family Scholarship, funded by the Crabb family (1 new)
Kindred Foundation has funded over $135,000 in scholarships, and with our charity partners we have funded almost $144,000 in scholarships since 2022.
Kindred Foundation’s Youth Mental Health Grant started in 2022. From 2022-2024, this grant focused on supporting two youth communities, Black and/or 2SLGBTQ+ youth. Beginning in 2025, we added a third focus, youth living with a physical disability.
26 grants and about $621,000 has been given (2022-2025) through our Youth Mental Health Grant. 22 unique organizations have been supported.
Kindred Foundation has donated almost $460,000 in additional funding to youth mental health initiatives outside of our Youth Mental Health Grant and Scholarships (2020-2025). With our charity partners, together we have donated over $540,000 to youth mental health initiatives across Canada.
In 2021, Kindred Foundation established the Kindred Cares Grant to support programs, projects, operations and research aiming to improve the quality of life for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.
49 grants and almost $450,000 has been given (2021-2025) through our Kindred Cares Grant. 29 unique organizations have been supported. $400,000 in additional funding has been donated to hospice and palliative care initiatives outside of our Kindred Cares Grant (2020-2025).
Rising food costs continued to be a major issue, creating significant challenges for individuals and families. This situation has placed considerable strain on food banks, meal programs, and other initiatives aimed at tackling food insecurity in Canada.
Kindred Foundation has donated almost $340,000 to food insecurity programs (2020-2025).
